here’s to the future

A lot can happen in a week.

When I wrote last, I was beginning my final week in D.C., a city I fell head over heels in love with. I was unemployed, and I had no plans beyond my plane flight back to Atlanta.

Today I’m making lists, making calls, and making plans to prepare for my very imminent move back to Birmingham, Alabama.

Yes indeed, folks, this girl got a job!

Starting July 1, I will join the Cooking Light team as their Digital Fellow. The fellowship will last six months, with the option for another six months afterwards. I’ll be working specifically with the cookinglight.com team, doing SEO, social media, video, blogging, etc. Basically, if it’s digital media, that’s my job.

I’ve made jokes about entering the real world before, but now it’s full-blown reality.

Emotion checklist:

  • Excitement
  • Nervousness
  • Stress
  • Elation
  • Bewilderment
  • Anxiety
  • Giddiness
  • And hunger (but that may just be because I haven’t eaten lunch yet…oops)

I really am thrilled about this next step in my life. I know I said I wanted to move to D.C.(and I still do), but I truly believe this is a better introduction to the “real world,” at least in my case. I’ll have a big-girl job, a big-girl house/apartment/cardboard box under a bridge (still working to avoid that last one…help a girl out if you can), and all those other aspects of a big-girl life, but I’ll still be in a city in which I have roots and connections and community, so I don’t have to start building a new life completely from scratch.

Praise God for His faithfulness!

Now to eat some lunch.
