dear UM step sing

I want to thank you for three of the best experiences of my life. I want to thank you for your support, your encouragement, your insanity, and your love. Thank you. So, so much.

Thank you for rescuing me from apathy and loneliness during “In the Potter’s Hands.” I had spent a semester feeling stagnant and alone, though I wouldn’t show it to anyone, and I was so confused as to what my place was at Samford anymore. When I joined the show, I was immediately enveloped into a community like I had never known before, full of joy and love. Those three weeks of going to Hogwarts every day with you were indeed magical, and they launched me into the greater University Ministries community that I cherish so much today. You introduced me to many of my closest friends– friends that mean the world to me– and I don’t have the words to thank you enough for that.

Celebrating our runner-up win at Waffle House, obviously.

Thank you for reminding me to protect what is important during “NINJA.” Though I never stopped loving you, I occasionally felt you were drifting away from what you used to be. A slight shift in focus can make a very tangible difference, and we felt those effects in the beginning. But we found our way back to the heart in the end. I was never so proud of you as I was when we found ourselves rejoicing wholeheartedly in sweet community by show week. What a beautiful memory you are now, and what an incredible lesson you taught.

We ARE the Ninja.

Thank you for filling my heart with so much joy and laughter during “A Night to Remember.” You were more precious to me during this time than any other. In a season of change and confusion, you gave me assurance and comfort. I was deeply blessed by a reenergized and refocused community that wanted one thing only: to be absolute holy fools and have the time of our lives in every aspect of preparing for the show. I was constantly in awe of how much love and heart was poured into creating an the most awkward prom-come-true. You will be one of the most brilliant of shining memories of my college career when I look back on these four years.

So incredibly happy to have gone to prom with these crazy kids. (Photo courtesy of Tim Foote)

I am so lucky to have been a part of you for a third year, and my only wish is that I could continue to spend year after year with this wonderful community. You have given and taught me so much, and I am forever grateful.

I love you with all my heart.
