bow wow

When I was looking for a college, my absolute number one requirement was that it had to have a football team. I didn’t particularly care how good it was or what conference they were in, there just had to be football or I wasn’t going.

Cue Samford University, my perfect school.

In my almost 3 1/2 years here, I’ve never once missed a home football game. I’m very, very proud of this fact. In every type of weather, versus every team, and up against all odds, I’ve been there from the kickoff to the final buzzer, cheering for my Bulldogs.

And now that part of my college career is over.

Yesterday was my last home game as a Samford University student. My last time to rock my streamer earrings (the brainchild of my oldest SU friend) and yell at the top of my lungs and sit stand on the bleachers in the student section and sing the fight song and be crazy ridiculous with my best friends. Yes, I know I can come back as an alum, but it won’t be the same. This was the last game for my SU student career.

And you know what? It was the best one ever.

Watching that game, especially the fourth quarter, was an emotional roller coaster only rivaled by our Homecoming game three weeks ago versus Appalachian State (which did not end in our favor, heartbreakingly).

We saw the Bulldogs, behind by 8 points, march down the field in with less than two minutes to go and tie the game with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Incredible.

We saw the first overtime end with both teams missing a field goal by kicking wide. Stressful.

We saw SU take it into the endzone and make another 2-point conversion to ensure Wofford would have to do the same in order to win. Thrilling.

We saw a Terrier fumble the ball and a Bulldog take possession to win the game. Amazing.

We, as a Red Sea, the Samford faithful, saw our fearless leader “Moses” demand that the event security “let his people go” and rush the field. They did. Insane.

We screamed and laughed and cried and jumped and hugged and relished in this emotional and incredible win for our Bulldogs. Bow Freakin’ Wow, Bulldogs! Samford Strong!

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to cap off my football games at good ol’ SU. What a memory I’ll have to take with me after graduation. What a moment to reflect on when I come back years from now to visit my alma mater. Wow.

As much as I hate to think about graduating, knowing that I’ll have these memories to look back on with the utmost fondness makes it a bit easier.

And even once I’ve got my diploma, I’ll always be a Samford Bulldog.

Fight, fight, fight, for Samford Bulldogs fight!

Go onward to victory!

Oh, we’ll wear the red and blue,

Samford, we’re all for you,

And we love you, too!

Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight!

Fight, fight, fight, for Samford Bulldogs fight!

Go onward to victory!

Oh, we’ll give a cheer or two,

Samford, we’re all for you,

Fight! Fight! Fight, Dogs, Fight!
